Opening Remarks

December 11, 2016 DEDICATION CEREMONY My name is Estela Prado and I am a member of the Parish Council at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. On behalf of the entire congregation of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish, Welcome to the dedication of Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Garden. What has been our dream from the beginning of our church as a mission church in the early 1970's, is now a reality - we have our Prayer Garden! • Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Garden is intended to provide a welcoming place for people to pray or meditate. • The Garden belongs to our entire parish family.  We are a community of God's children.  A significant goal of the Garden is to facilitate a sense of community where everyone's participation is of equal importance. • The theme of the Prayer Garden is Peace and Hope, and it is open to everyone. A great many people contributed their time, talent, treasure, and prayers to the creation of our Garden. • The project was financed primarily through a sponsorship program.  There was no single large sponsor.  Approximately 300 people participated through the sponsorship of olive trees, benches, gateway marker rocks, and 313 sponsorship bricks. • Many parishioners gathered hundreds of signatures on petitions; visited with our neighbors during our outreach program; and provided volunteer labor on various construction tasks. • Also, Many professional people, who are not members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, also provided a great deal of help and support on a strictly volunteer basis. • The support that we received from Bishop Vasa and the diocese staff was outstanding. • We are very fortunate that our church is located in Windsor.  The staff of the town planning department and building department went out of their way to be helpful and supportive. • With this said, Our Prayer Garden continues to be work in progress. We have completed the tasks required to create the basic Garden. • We are currently working on providing additional special lighting for the statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe and certain other areas. • Going forward, after the first of the new year, we will establish a committee that will review suggestions for future enhancements to our project. • We also have the beginnings of a website dedicated to promoting our Prayer Garden. • As you know, The Prayer Garden is one of many projects that we have undertaken in recent years in our plan to repair and enhance our church property. In Closing "Let us now open our hearts to the word of God".
